The Nigerian Communications Commission NCC, has reiterated its dedication to deepening partnerships with key stakeholders, positioning collaboration as a cornerstone for a resilient and thriving telecommunications industry in Nigeria.

Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, gave the assurance during a high-level meeting with a delegation from the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations NIPR, led by its President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, at the Commission’s headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.

Dr. Maida assured that the NCC under his watch will sustain active engagement with professional bodies such as the NIPR to enhance public awareness, foster responsible communication practices, and strengthen stakeholder involvement in critical telecom matters.

He commended the NIPR on its successful bid to host the 2026 World Public Relations Forum in Nigeria, describing the achievement as a powerful testament to perseverance, strategic messaging, and narrative control.

“It tells a compelling story of perseverance, strategic communication, and the importance of owning the narrative.

“The victory demonstrated Nigeria’s capacity to convincingly present its case to the Global Alliance and other international stakeholders”, Dr. Maida said.

He urged the NIPR to seize the opportunity offered by the upcoming African Telecoms Union ATU, Conference of Plenipotentiaries scheduled for July 2026 in Nigeria to project a positive and compelling image of the country on the global stage.

He further disclosed that on the domestic front, the Commission is rolling out robust education, sensitisation, and awareness campaigns on key regulatory initiatives.

These include the protection of Critical National Information Infrastructure CNII, promotion of efficient data usage, implementation of simplified tariffs by mobile network operators, public access to coverage maps, and measures to foster healthy competition in the industry.

Dr Maida expressed optimism about the sector’s trajectory, revealing that difficult but necessary reforms are already producing tangible outcomes.

“Through the efforts that we have been making to stabilise the sector, we have been able to restore investor confidence,” he said.

“The level of investment we are seeing now is not about keeping the lights on; it is about growing the industry… investors are saying we have confidence in the sector, in the reforms of the government, in the regulator, and we believe there is opportunity in this market.”

The NIPR President Dr. Neliaku, who also spoke during the meeting, lauded the NCC’s proactive approach to collaboration and stakeholder engagement, acknowledging its pivotal role in advancing Nigeria’s digital economy.

He reaffirmed the Institute’s readiness to partner with the Commission on initiatives focused on responsible communication, reputation management, and public sensitisation regarding regulatory policies.

The meeting underscores a shared vision between the NCC and NIPR to support sustainable growth in Nigeria’s telecommunications landscape while enhancing the nation’s international standing through effective public relations and strategic advocacy.

It is expected that this renewed partnership comes at a critical time as Nigeria continues to position itself as a leading digital hub in Africa.
