Agbakoba mourns late Prof Ben Nwabueze…Insists his death leaves big void

Former President of the Nigeria Bar Association NBA, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba has expressed deep grief over the recent demise of the country’s foremost constitutional lawyer and former Minister of Education, Prof Ben Nwabueze SAN.
He died at the age of 92.
A statement personally signed by the human rights lawyer reads in part: “It is with great sadness that I heard the news of one of the world’s leading scholars on constitutional Law and legal systems. His academic prowess towered above all else.
“Professor Nwabueze’s proclivity in producing Tomes and Magnus opus on critically important legal questions confirms his status as Africa’s leading scholar on Democracy, Federalism and constitutionalism. His critical thinking will be very badly missed, particularly by me and colleagues at the Professor Ben Nwabueze Centre for constitutional law. My deepest condolences to his family.”
The family had yesterday, confirmed his death, following speculations to that effect.
Nwabueze who hailed from Atani in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra State, passed on Sunday evening at the age of 92.
Nwabueze was also Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN.
The member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Afam Ogene and the President General of Atani Town Union, Arinze Nzeli, had confirmed the death of the legal luminary.
Reacting to his death, the family through Eni Nwabueze, MD, said that Nwabueze lived an exemplary life of consequence.
“With great sadness, we announce the passing on to celestial glory of our patriarch, Professor B. O. Nwabueze SAN, NNOM, CON, pioneer Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the Oduah Afo-na-isagba of Atani, Anambra State, on Sunday October 29, 2023 aged 94.
“He lived an exemplary life of consequence. Burial arrangements will be announced in due course”, the family said in a brief statement.
