BREAKING: Akpabio emerges President of Nigeria’s 10th Senate
Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Former Akwa Ibom State Governor and Senator representing North West senatorial zone of the state, Senator Godswill Akpabio has been elected President of 10th Senate of the National Assembly, Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber. He polled 63 votes to defeat his rival, Senator Abdulazeez Yari, who polled 46 votes.
The race for who becomes the Senate President got more intense Tuesday morning as voting commenced at the red chamber in Abuja early this morning.
It was gathered that while the Senators were already seated as early as 6am, voting begun at exactly 08:45am on a state by state basis and in an alphabetical order. Voting ended at exactly 09:15am.
Investigation further showed that while Ali Ndume nominated Senator Akpabio, Yari was nominated Senator Elija Abo.
Meanwhile, the election for the leadership of the lower legislative chamber, the House of Representatives is ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
