The Independent National Electoral Commission has postponed the governorship and state assembly elections scheduled to hold Saturday, March 11, 2023, less than 72hours to the given time. Both elections have been rescheduled to March 18, 2023.

A state Resident Electoral Commissioner who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity confirmed the decision.

It was gathered that the one-week postponement is due to problems arising from the reconfiguration of the Bi-Modal Accreditation System BVAS as well as other transport logistics challenges.

Recall that an Abuja division of the Court of Appeal had approved the request of the commission to reconfigure the BVAS machines in preparation for the governorship and state assembly former slated for March 11, 2023.

While ruling on an application brought before by the presidential candidate of the Labour Party LP, Peter Obi to turn down the commission’s request to reconfigure the machines, the court ruled that it was within the powers and authority of the electoral umpire to make adequate prparations for the conduct of the election.
