Maritime Media Editors’ Forum berths, pledges fairness

A group of astute and professional maritime Journalists has announced the establishment of Maritime Media Editors’ Forum MMEF, a strictly professional and non-profit organisation as part of efforts to contribute to the growth and development of the maritime industry in Nigeria.
The MMEF, which also seeks to protect and preserve the interest of its numerous members, further aims to sustain the integrity of the media profession, not only in the maritime industry but also across the Nigerian nation and has pledged equity, fairness and justice in all its activities.
According to a statement signed by its interim leader, Prince Deinde Adefarakan, the coming on stream of the group followed exhaustive consultations with stakeholders, which were also in reaction to recent developments in the industry.
The statement reads in part: “We wish to inform the general public, especially maritime industry stakeholders and indeed all operators within the international trade supply chain of the inauguration of a new professional body called the Maritime Media Editors’ Forum. This followed series of consultation with relevant stakeholders and in response to recent developments in the maritime industry, especially within the media segment.
“MMEF, a non-profit making organisation, is strictly a professional body of Journalists that cover not only the maritime industry but also the entire international trade and commerce supply chain with a vision to contribute significantly to its growth and development.
“We are equally committed to strictly adhering to the ethics of the media practice while adopting international best practice in all our activities. Furthermore, as a body of professional Journalists, we will uphold the tenets of justice, equity and fairness in all our dealings.
“We use this medium to express our profound appreciation to stakeholders, who have shown their support and encouragements towards the berthing of this new baby in the industry. We also assure stakeholders of our unwavering commitment towards contributing our quota to the growth and development of the industry, especially at this time when the Federal Government has demonstrated its resolve towards harnessing the vast potential of the country’s marine and blue economy for the good of the citizens.”
