Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority NPA, Mohammed Bello-Koko has officially commissioned the newly rehabilitated mini water facility located in Apapa.
The project is in tandem with the management ‘s commitment to providing common user facilities such as roads and water etc as enshrined in the 2006 port concession agreement, which stripped the NPA of its cargo handling functions as a land lord/technical regulator and gave same to the private concessionaires.
Speaking at the event, Bello-Koko assured that the management under his watch is leaving no stone unturned in it’s efforts at meeting all NPA’s requirements under the port concession agreement.
Recall that the authority, which is also charged with the responsibility of providing marine and towage services had recently launched two brand new 80 tonne Bollard Pull Tugboats christened M.T MAIKOKO and M.T DA-OPUKURO constructed by world’s renowned shipyard, Damen to complement its existing fleet of tugs.
The neoteric 80-ton tugboats are the first of the 2813 Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) Model in Africa and they possess exceptional Seakeeping Behaviour, Superb Manoeuvrability of 360° using the Azimuth Thrusters, fire-fighting capability and Outstanding Towing Characteristics which will enhance the manoeuvring of large capacity vessels of 300 metres LOA and above presently calling at Nigeria’s seaports.
The authority had also recently commissioned the modernised control Towers at both Lagos Ports Complex LPC and the Tin Can Island Ports Complex TCIPC, both in Apapa, which are in line with it’s infrastructural renewal to enhance efficiency and safe navigation.
