The Nigerian government Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency NIMASA has committed to joining hands with the global shipping regulator, the International Maritime Organisation IMO in tackling challenges posed by climate change, especially for the shipping industry.

The country as a major shipping nation joined other member-nations of the IMO at the just concluded 80th session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee MEPC of the IMO.

Tackling Climate Change through Cutting Green House Gas, GHG emissions from ships including the adoption of the revised IMO GHG Strategy were the focus of discussions at the meeting, which held in London.

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola led other Nigerian delegates to participate at the session, where Energy Efficiency of Ships, Ballast Water Management among other topical issues that were reviewed.
