Inspector General of the Nigeria Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

At last, temporary reprieve came the way of many vehicle owners across the country, as the Inspector General of the Nigeria Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the extension of the grace period for the enforcement of tinted glass permit requirement for vehicles to October 2, 2025.

The enforcement was initially billed to commence on August 12, 2025 but has now been extended October 2, 2025.

A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Monday in Abuja, noted that the decision followed a surge in applications through the official portal, which, he said reflected increased public compliance.

According to the statement: “The Inspector General of Police has approved a further extension of the grace period for the enforcement of the tinted glass permit requirement for vehicles with tinted windows. The new date for enforcement is now October 2, 2025.

“This decision to extend the grace period follows a significant surge in applications received through the official portal, reflecting heightened public compliance with the directive. In the light of this, the Force considers it imperative to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security considerations.”

According to the Police Image-Maker, the extension would further enhance more refinement of both physical and digital verification processes in order to uphold the integrity of  the permit system with a view to preventing abuse.

“The extension will also provide room for the continued fine-tuning of verification processes, both digital and physical, to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse. The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms that the authorised platform for the application remains https://possap.gov.ng and advises citizens to disregard any unofficial channels.

“Members of the public are further encouraged to report all forms of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorised processing to the appropriate Police authorities, including via the dedicated hotline: 09169967000.

“The Nigeria Police Force appreciates the cooperation of the Nigerian people and remains committed to balancing public convenience with robust security measures for the safety of all”, the PRO also said.
