Tinubu felicitates with CG Customs at 59…Extols his transformative leadership

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his warmest felicitations to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, on his 59th birthday celebration, which came up on Sunday, January 19, 2025. The President said he was particularly impressed by the purposeful and transformative leadership of the CG, which had helped the Service to achieve great milestones in the last one and half years when he assumed mantle of leadership at the Service.
According to a statement issued Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the transformative leadership of CGC Adeniyi since his appointment as the 14th Comptroller-General of Customs in June 2023.
He also extolled Adeniyi’s contributions towards advancing the core functions and values of the Customs Service. The President highlighted his role in driving enhanced border security, the digitalisation and automation of the operations of the Service, among several other transformations in the country’s international supply chain.
“This progress, coupled with a renewed focus on professionalism and boosting officers’ morale, has resulted in enhanced performance within the Service. Under CGC Adeniyi’s stewardship, the Service has achieved unprecedented revenue surpluses, improved trade facilitation, and introduced innovative anti-smuggling strategies.
“These efforts include empowering the youths with alternative livelihood skills, engaging with traditional institutions, and fostering effective communication and mutual respect within and beyond the Service”, the President said.
The President also acknowledged the improved border security management under CGC Adeniyi, which has led to remarkable seizures of arms and ammunitions as well as the successful revival of the Comptroller-General of Customs’ Annual Conference, a platform to evaluate and strengthen Customs operations and collaboration with stakeholders.
President Tinubu further praised Adeniyi over his 30 years of remarkable service and particularly his adaptability, which the President believes brought immense value to the Service. He prayed God to give more wisdom, good health, and continued strength to steer the affairs of the Nigeria Customs Service so as to further boost the growth and development of the country.
