The United Nations has said that an estimated 7.8million men, women and children may face humanitarian crisis across Nigeria’s three north-eastern states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States BAY, in 2025 alone.

The global body has therefore announced plans to launch the 2025 Nigeria Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan HNRP, slated for Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 9:00 am. The venue is the UN House Auditorium, Abuja.

According to a report, apart these 7.8million people who may need humanitarian assistance in the three north eastern states of Nigeria in 2025, over 1.8 million have been forced to flee their homes and are internally displaced due to persistent violence.

The report further says that an additional 1.4 million people, who were displaced before now have returned to their homes but lack access to essential services and livelihoods, while about 4.6 million are host community members, are also facing the consequences of the conflict.

The UN noted that in response to this crisis, the humanitarian community has concluded plans to launch the 2025 HNRP to address the needs of those affected by this multi-faceted crisis.

“The launch of the HNRP serves as a critical opportunity for the Government of Nigeria at both State and Federal levels, local organisations, donors, and the international community to demonstrate their continued commitment to supporting affected people in north-east Nigeria”, the UN also said.
