DG NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh, OFR.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency NIMASA, has stoutly defended its recent promotion exercise, which has become an annual ritual, in which two staffers were promoted to the rank of director while over 500 others were also elevated to various positions, insisting the exercise was strictly based on merit.

Director General of the agency, Dr Bashir Jamoh, has said that the promotion of members of staff of the agency to all positions, including those in the Director cadre was strictly on merit. Jamoh, who made this clarification in Lagos, also noted that the recent promotion of two of the agency’s staffers to Directors, who among the 510 newly promoted staffers in NIMASA followed due process, as it was approved by the agency’s governing board after thorough and rigorous screening exercises.

“We’re focused on rewarding hard work and commitment with incentives, which include but not limited to promotion of the deserving staffers on a regular basis in line with the agency’s extant laws and the Public Service Rules.

“The promotion of Engineer Chris Amakulo and Mrs. Olubusola Obasanjo-Akande as Directors in the agency was approved by the governing board last week. 22 Assistant Directors were also promoted to Deputy Directors, while 486 other staffers were elevated to their next grade levels. All promotions were merit- based and we will sustain this practice, which is in line with the agency’s core values,” Jamoh stated.

The promotion exercise was the 4th under the Jamoh led- management, which came into office on March 10, 2020.
