Advisory Committee on NPPM visits Shippers Council…Says manual aided port operations

The Advisory Committee of the Nigerian Ports Process Manual NPPM, has said that it has recorded landmark achievements in port operations since the introduction of the manual at the nation’s seaports.
Chairman of the committee, Prince Olayiwola Shittu stated this when he led the other members of the committee on a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Shippers Council NSC at its Apapa headquarters, Lagos, Wednesday.
“This is a committee that was set up to work pro-bono to assist Shippers Council to achieve the mandate as contained in the NPPM.
The manual is to support the Ease of Doing Business initiated by Federal Government. “The CEO has invited us to brief him about our activities in-order to enable him know what is going on in the NPPM’s committee’’, he said.
He affirmed the readiness of the committee to support the council so as to meet its aspirations at the ports.
Shittu who is also the former National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents ANLCA also urged the council to ensure the development of all Inland Dry Ports IDPs across the country.
‘‘Since Shippers’ Council already has a plan on developing ICDs to spread all over the country, we are encouraging them to have as many as possible to reduce the problem that we are experiencing at the conventional seaports in Lagos’’, he added.
He expressed optimism that the ICDs when operational would address congestion at the nation’s ports, create employment opportunity and as well as accrue substantial revenue for the government.
Executive Secretary/CEO of the council, Hon. Emmanuel Jime, who led other members of the management team of the council to accord a warm reception to the committee, thanked them for coming.
He also told the committee that the council under his watch would continue to recourse to the committee in the implementation of the manual with a view to achieving government’s overall objective in setting it up.
He also assured that the management is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that all the existing ICDs are operational and efficient.
