The Nigerian Communications Commission NCC, has officially inaugurated the e-Health project located at the OndoState Specialist Hospital, Akure, underscoring the need to integrate Information and Communication Technology ICT to improve and revolutionise the health sector in the country in a manner that best serves Nigerian citizens.

Speaking at the event in Akure, Thursday, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida, disclosed that the feat, which was achieved through collaboration, is a demonstration of the Commission’s commitment to driving innovation, research and growth in Nigeria’s digital economy.

According to him, the successful completion of the project makes it possible for the health sector in the country to be integrated into the digital economy to leverage the benefits currently being enjoined by other sectors of the economy.

He also noted that the e-Health project would make it possible for citizens to access healthcare from e-health platforms and enable them contribute better to the digital economy, arguing thst it takes only healthy citizens to do that.

It is also believed that integrating the health sector into the digital economy will not only enhance the quality of medical services, it will also ensure that services are accessible to all citizens irrespective of their geographical location. Similarly, by integrating advanced ICT solutions into healthcare, will also streamline medical processes, enhance patient care, and facilitate the efficient management of health records.

Dr Maida, who reaffirmed the commitment of the NCC to collaboration and partnership, noted that the project succeeded because stakeholders worked with the Commission including technology experts and the government.

This collaboration, according to him, has created a model that can be replicated and scaled to other regions, ensuring that the advantages of ICT in healthcare are felt across the Nigerian nation.

He said: “The commissioning of this e-Health Project at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, Ondo State, attests to our collective efforts to harness the power of Information and Communication Technology ICT to improve and revolutionise the health sector in Nigeria in a manner that better serves citizens.

“We are hopeful that with its successful take-off, this project will further promote the Commission’s drive to speed up the adoption of ICT in the health sector. The implementation of e-health solutions will streamline medical processes, enhance patient care, and facilitate the efficient management of health records.

“As we commission this project today, we want to reaffirm our commitment to collaboration and partnership. The project succeeded because of stakeholders worked with NCC, including technology experts and the government. This collaboration has created a model that can be replicated and scaled to other regions, ensuring that the advantages of ICT in healthcare are felt nationwide.

“With the State Specialist Hospital in Akure now equipped with innovative technology that enables healthcare professionals to deliver timely and accurate diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care, we expect that these will improve patient satisfaction and positive health outcomes. This is because the benefits of this project go beyond the hospital walls to the larger community and set a precedent for other healthcare institutions all over the country.”

He therefore thanked all the Commission’s stakeholders, who have contributed to the realisation of this project, acknowledging that their dedication, expertise, and support have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.

He also insisted that It is only through such collaborative endeavours that the country could drive progress and innovations.
