NCC, IXPN partner to fast-track Nigeria’s digital transformation

The Nigerian Communications Commission NCC has resolved to partner the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria IXPN in line with strategic efforts to fast-track Nigeria’s digital transformation. The Commission had recently played host to the Board of IXPN for a high-level strategy session.
The need to strengthen Nigeria’s internet infrastructure formed the epi-centre of discussions at the meeting, with a focus on expanding broadband penetration and establishing more local internet exchange points. Both bodies underscored the importance of enhancing internet connectivity and growing local content to drive greater digital inclusion nationwide.
This strategic collaboration between the NCC and IXPN signals a unified commitment to closing Nigeria’s digital divide. Through strengthened public-private partnerships, infrastructure upgrades, and nationwide digital literacy programs, both organisations are laying the groundwork for a thriving, inclusive digital economy.

Both organisations also unanimous on the alignment with Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan (NBP) 2020-2025, which aims to deliver minimum broadband speeds of 25 Mbps in urban areas and 10 Mbps in rural communities by 2025. The NCC reiterated its commitment to positioning digital transformation as a vital engine for economic growth, innovation, and national resilience.
This strategic partnership marks a bold step towards building a smarter, faster, and more connected Nigeria.
The Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria IXPN has spotlighted its recent strides in boosting network capacity and expanding internet exchange points nationwide. With fresh plans to roll out additional Points of Presence (PoPs) across the country, IXPN is set to enhance regional connectivity, slash latency, and deliver faster, more reliable internet services.
