A Nigerian Tech startup, Kandem Ltd has launched an online-based service provider marketplace, in a bid to support government’s efforts to reduce unemployment in the country, especially among the youths.

The platform, according to a statement by the organisation is live and can be accessed through the URL – www.mokoto.ng on Google play store.

CEO of Kandem Ltd, Mrs. Prisca Ossy Prestige, “mokoto.ng is a way of leveraging technology to solve the intractable unemployment challenge in Nigeria.”

She stated that majority of the Nigerian youth of employable age are mainly artisans and freelance professionals as there are not enough big corporations and government agencies to absorb them into direct white or blue-collar employment. However, the challenge most of them have is lack of visibility because they lack the funds to advertise and promote their skills.”

It was gathered that Mokoto.ng is composed of over 100 categories and subcategories where individual professionals and artisans can create free accounts and host their business profile online, which gives them maximum visibility.

On the platform, members can display the services they offer, take appointments, chat live with clients, indicate their business hours etc. It’s just like having your own office online.

Mrs. Prestige explained that as an individual in need of a service, one of the key innovations Mokoto brings to the market is the ability of the platform to automatically read your location as a visitor and present to you the closest service provider within your geographical location.

According to her, “what this means is that if you need a plumber, you can visit to mokoto.ng and the system will automatically present you a plumber that is just 1km away from your location. This means faster response and timely delivery for both parties.” The platform appears to be gaining acceptance.

The CEO revealed that “In less than 30 days, over 5000 independent service providers have signed up and we hope to reach 100,000 members in our first year of operation.”
