The National Identity Management Commission NIMC has released new advisory for the modification the National Identification Number NIN using the self-service portal.

According to a statement issued by the head, Corporate Communications Unit of the Commission, Dr Kayode Adegoke, members of the public are advised to adopt single browser and device access, as the self-service account is uniquely tied to the browser and device used during registration.

He added that access to an individual’s account is limited to that specific browser on that particular device.

He further disclosed that for anyone to be able change his/her NIN record, the person must log in using the same browser and device originally used to register the account, warning that any attempt to use a different browser or device may result in access issues.

The Commission which also issued a warning concerning cache clearing, insisted clearing one’s browser cache will automatically reset the browser and may lock one’s account. It advises that if this occurs, the account will require an unlinking process to regain access.

It further warned that once one’s browser and device are locked; the individual is permitted a maximum of five unlock attempt requests. It advised the public that no further requests will be processed after this five-time limit is exhausted.

The statement reads in part: “These are some of the measures put in place by the Commission to safeguard and protect the identity of the users of the self-service modifications portal.

“NIMC urges all users to carefully follow these guidelines to avoid unnecessary disruptions and delays. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as the Commission continue to safeguard your data and improve service delivery.”
