The Director General of the World Trade Organisation WTO, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has congratulated Nigerian Chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, broke the current Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual” after clocking in at 87 hours and 50 minutes as at Monday, May 15, 2023.
Hilda Effiong has however extended her cooking to 100 hours to break the Guinness World Record for longest cooking hours by Tuesday morning of May 16, 2023.

Nigeria’s Okonjo-Iweala, who is a former Managing Director of the World Bank on her verified Twitter handle @NOIweala congratulated Hilda Effiong for achieving the feat.
The WTO-boss said in a tweet: “Congratulations to Hilda Effiong Bassey a young entrepreneurial Nigerian who had a vision to enter the Guinness Book of World Records through a marathon cookaton! She has done it with the can do spirit of young Nigerians.”
Hilda, the Nigerian Jollof Queen had started the competition on Thursday at 4 p.m. by turning on her cooker, and she beat the current world record holder on Monday morning.
Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has broken the current Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual” after clocking in at 87 hours and 50 minutes.
When certified by Guinness World Records, Hilda will top the current world record holder, Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who achieved the feat in 2019 with 87 hours 45 minutes of record-breaking uninterrupted cooking.
Hilda’s cooking marathon was in Lekki, Lagos State, at Amore Gardens, where she intends to set a new record of 96 hours.
Recall that Nigerians, including several celebrities, defied the rain to physically cheer up the visibly tired chef in her ongoing record-breaking attempt. She reached the four-day mark on Monday.
The chef won the inaugural Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021, when she took home a grand prize of $5,000.
