Nearly 60 years after Nigeria discovered  crude oil in commercial quantities in Oloibiri in the present-day Rivers State, no indigenously own ed ship participates in the lifting of the black gold, a development experts have blamed on the lack of political will on the part of the Federal Government.

A Master Mariner, Captain Adamu Biu, who delivered a paper entitled: ‘Growth and Development of shipping Industry in Nigeria: Creating Enabling Environment’ at this year’s edition of the World Maritime Day celebration hosted by the Federal Ministry of Transport in Lagos, observed that the country loses hundreds of billions of dollars annually to foreign shipping firms due to the exclusion of Nigerian vessels from lifting the product.
