There are reports that the Marina, Lagos headquarters of the Nigerian Ports Authority NPA is currently on fire, in what security experts described as part of the backlash of the #ENDSARS protests and the massacre of some of protesting youths by soldiers especially at the Lekki Toll Gate yesterday.

Details of the fire incident are still sketchy as to the actual cause of the fire and extent of damage to the six-storey edifice as at the time of filing this report.

But unconfirmed sources said it may not be unconnected with the anger against the Federal and Lagos State Governments across the country over the deployment of military that led to yesterday’s killing of youths numbering over 40 in various locations in Lagos, especially Lekki, Mushin, Orile and Alausa, Ikeja.

Stakeholders, who reacted to the burning of the NPA building condemned the act of arson, which they believed made no economic sense, since taxpayers money would still be used in the end to rebuild the newly refurbished edifice.

Efforts to speak with the NPA’s General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, Jatto Adams proved abortive as his MTN official line was switched off.

We will however bring details of the incident shortly.
