The OMIS (Maritime & Offshore Awards) has announced the opening of nominations for the prestigious Maritime and Offshore Awards.

It was gathered that this year’s event which will hold in September this year, to commemorate the annual World Maritime Day organised by the International Maritime Organisation IMO, will feature a 3-in-1 event, which will include a Capacity and Professional Development Conference, Exhibition, and Awards Dinner, to celebrate innovation and achievements in the maritime and allied industries.

Chief Executive of The OMIS, Femi Da-silva, while speaking on the events, said the conference being held in concert with some international partners, will offer free certificate practical first aid training, emergency response, and ancillary training for maritime workers, dock workers, port workers, maritime security, seafarers, truck drivers among others.

In addition, the event will also provide a free professional development conference, bringing together stakeholders in the maritime sector to address pertinent issues in the industry and proffer solutions.

According to him, the Awards Dinner will be the highlight of the event, attracting over 400 guests from the maritime, offshore, and allied industries.

Da-silva said all stakeholders within the Maritime and Offshore industries are invited to nominate now for the awards, which is FREE and strictly based on meriit. He equally called for participation in the Maritime Congress, which promises to impact greatly on the sector, while beaming searchlight on the amazing work and opportunities in the sector.

He said: “Cash prizes and other price to the tune of 5000usd have been earmarked to inspire young maritime professionals to be more creative, dedicated and innovative in discharge of their duties.”

Da-silva hinted that among the judges unveiled for this year includes a former Port Manager of the igerian Ports Authority NPA,  Mr. Joshua Asanga, who was also at various times, General Manager in departments such as: Marine and Operations, General Manager, Eastern Port and General Manager responsible for Monitoring and Compliance at Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) and Mrs. Ify Akerele, Vice President, Nigerian Chamber of Shipping.  

“The maritime law expert with the finest distinction; Mrs Jean Chiazor Anishere SAN,  who is also the United Nations UN sole representative for the African Women in Maritime (WIMAFRICA remains our erudite and formidable Chairman.
