Two petrol tankers explode on Otedola Bridge in Lagos
No fewer than two tankers laden with Premium Motor Spirit PMS also called petrol have exploded into flames on the Otedola Bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Lagos, which has caused huge vehicular traffic in the state capital; Ikeja and environs.
This is coming about three years after several petroleum products –laden tankers exploded on the same bridge in which over 100 persons were believed to have been burnt to death in the ensuing inferno while over 50 vehicles were believed to have been burnt.
The cause of the incident has been confirmed as at the time of filing this report, but it was believed to have happened at about 7pm local time. There has also not been any confirmation as to possible casualties.
However officers and men of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Lagos Traffic Management Authority LASTMA and Lagos State Fire Service were seen at the scene of the accident with fire fighting vehicles on ground for possible escalation of the inferno.
The traffic and security agencies have also cordoned the Toll Gate end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which has caused long stretch of gridlock not only on that road but also on adjoining roads and streets.
