The Nigerian Communications Commission NCC, has accepted the request by the telecommunications sector regulator of the Republic of Cameroon, Telecommunications Regulatory Board ART, for a strategic partnership aimed to benchmark, boost regulatory framework of the country and ultimately enhance quality of service.

Under the strategic partnership, the Cameroon Regulatory Board would understudy the operations of the NCC in order to learn from its experience in order to raise the telecomm regulatory bar in Cameroon as part of measures to improve service delivery for telecomm services subscribers.

To achieve these, the NCC played host to the Cameroonian team led by the Director-General of the ART, Philemon Zoo Zame to a benchmarking exercise held at the NCC headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

The ART delegation was received by the NCC Management team led by the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Commission Dr. Aminu Maida.

It was learnt that the meeting between both regulators marked a significant milestone in the telecom regulatory landscape not only for both countries, but also for the entire region.

A highpoint of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding MoU, to further strengthen the long-standing relationship between the two countries and also seek new avenues for collaboration.

The MoU is expected to benefit both nations by leveraging the NCC’s experience in areas such as quality of service, number portability, consumer protection, and passive infrastructure regulation, among several others.

Telecom experts believe that the partnership is a testament to the growing recognition of the regulatory excellence of the NCC and its role as a leadership position among telecom regulators in the entire African continent.
