The Registrar/CEO of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria CRFFN, Mr. Kingsley Igwe, FCILT, has made a strong case for collective action among stakeholders, especially CEOs of maritime agencies towards achieving effective and future-ready Port Stare Control regime, robust maritime governance systems as part of measures to boost safety.

 Mr. Igwe spoke when joined other maritime leaders and industry experts at the Abuja MoU Regional Workshop for Directors-General, Chief Executive Officers of Heads of Port State Control.

The workshop, with the theme: “Future –Ready Port State Control Regime: Leadership, People, Governance and Performance for Safer Maritime Systems”, was organised by the Abuja Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control (Abuja MoU) with support from the Lloyd’s Register Foundation.

While delivering a goodwill address, the Registrar/CEO described the theme as both timely and significant. He emphasised the fact that the theme underscores the collective responsibility of governments, regulators, and industry stakeholders to build resilient maritime systems through effective leadership, strong governance, skilled professionals, and a culture of excellence.

The event was attended by heads of maritime government agencies including the Nigerian Ports Authority NPA, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency NIMASA, and the Nigerian Shippers’ Council NSC, among several other stakeholders.
