In line with ongoing reforms, the Nigerian Ports Authority NPA has donated operational security equipment to the Ports Authority Police (Western), Lagos, as part of measure to boost ports security.

The security items were presented on Wednesday at the Ports Authority Police Headquarters in Apapa, Lagos, on behalf of the

Managing Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, represented by the Port Manager of Lagos Ports Complex LPC, Apapa, Mr. Adebowale Lawal presented the security items Wednesday, to the Ports Authority Police Headquarters in Apapa.

Among the security equipment were bulletproof vests, tactical helmets, raincoats, touch lights, handcuffs, operational boots, batons, and other essential operational gear aimed at enhancing the efficiency, safety, and preparedness of police personnel.

Speaking during the presentation, the MD noted that the security equipment is to assist the Police in safeguarding Nigeria’s seaports including security accoutrements.

According to him, the donation was a reflection of the Authority’s determination to ensure that the security architecture of Nigerian ports is strengthened, adding that this is to ensure protection of critical maritime infrastructure.

“The equipment will go a long way in improving the operational capacity of the Ports Authority Police in safeguarding port facilities, protecting port users, as well as preventing security breaches within the ports and waterfront areas”, the MD said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, CP Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, who received the equipment commended the NPA Managing Director and the management for the good geture.

She described the donation as a timely intervention, adding that it further demonstrates the enduring partnership between the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigeria Police Force in securing the country’s maritime gateways.

She pledged that the Command under her watch would effectively deploy the equipment to improve policing operations and enhance security across in the country’s seaports.
